Devon Energy gets approval to Drill for oil in Campbell County WY

Devon Energy's Waterbuck oil well permit was just approved on 04/07/2011.  This permit is issued for Campbell county WY and will target the Niobrara formation.  The full report from WOGCC's website is listed below:

Oil and Gas by the Numbers 03/25/2011

Good Afternoon! There are lots of new things going on in the oil and gas world this week.  The price of oil this afternoon is currently at $105.13/barrel.  I am interested to see what impact the new permits in the Gulf will have on future oil prices.  I am also watching the new list of permits requested in the Niobrara on the Wyoming side of the formation.  National rig count is up again by a total of 18 rigs. That is about twice the jump we have seen so far this month.

PDC adds it's name to the companies drilling the Niobrara

PDC Energy expects to make is appearance in the Niobrara this year.  PDC reports that it intends to drill 10 wells in the formation were others are holding tight to acreage.  PDC is joining Chesapeake Energy, EOG Resources, Noble Energy, and Anadarko Petroleum in the list of companies with exposure in the Niobrara, Wattenberg Core.

GMX Resources shows renewed commitment to Bakken & Niobrara acreage

GMX just announced that it has stepped up to the plate to further its exploration and development of the Bakken, Niobrara, and Haynesville/Bossier core areas. Company news reports that GMXR has added three new employees to its Land Department. In addition to the Land Managers added specifically to the Bakken and Niobrara acreage areas, GMXR is opening a regional office in Denver, CO that will serve as the working office for both shale plays. GMXR reports that the Denver office will be fully functional by the end of March.

Niobrara Formation Education - Energy on the Rocks

I just happened upon a link that looks to be a really good seminar.  The Rocky Mountain Section of the AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) is doing a Niobrara focus for their 2011 annual meeting.  They will be offering a field trips, core workshops, plenary session, and a core museum all focused on the Niobrara.  From a glance at the schedule it looks to be a very informative look at the formation, geology behind the oil, and exploration movements in the area.
